The evolution of Scenic Eclipse, the World’s First Discovery Yachts™

It’s been two years since Scenic Eclipse was spectacularly christened by the ship’s Godmother, Dame Helen Mirren in September 2019. This was followed by the maiden voyage to the northern hemisphere and then cruises exploring the Antarctic region, pioneering a new class of small-ship ocean yacht cruising for up to 228 guests.
The Discovery Yacht’s advanced technological features and custom design, coupled with a truly all-inclusive philosophy and ultra-luxury experiences, provides guests with an unrivalled cruising experience.

In 2021, the World's First Discovery Yacht continues to innovate, with new on board enhancements and a number of exciting new itineraries in some of the world’s most exotic destinations.

August 2019: The Maiden Voyage

Scenic Eclipse sets sail in Iceland, ready to welcome guests for its maiden voyage, from the world’s northernmost capital Reykjavik to Quebec, Canada. The innovative and ultra-luxury Discovery Yacht marked the first of its kind, taking just small numbers of guests to some of the world’s finest locations in 6-star luxury. It created an experience for guests that felt akin to having their own, private super yacht with a team of expert staff and crew to enhance every moment of their voyage. With an unrivalled range of facilities and experiences, Scenic Eclipse created an entire new category in ultra-luxury cruising, being the first to feature two helicopters^ on board for heli-flightseeing and a submarine, Scenic Neptune^ capable of submerging 300m below the surface of the ocean.

On board guests could make themselves at home in the most luxurious and spacious suites from the 32m2 Verandah Suites to the 245m2 Two-bedroom Penthouse Suite. They could enjoy up to 10 world-class dining experiences from casual to fine dining or relax with all-inclusive premium beverages* at nine bars and lounges. During the cruise, guests could also rejuvenate and indulge in a wholistic wellbeing experience at the expansive and tranquil 550sqm Senses Spa and the only yoga and Pilates studio on the seas.

September 2019: The Christening Ceremony

After making its way down to the diverse coastlines of Canada and the USA – via beautiful townships such as Lunenburg and Martha’s Vineyard – Scenic Eclipse arrived in New York City. The ship was christened by its Godmother Dame Helen Mirren in September 2019, as part of a special ceremony in Manhattan that was broadcast live to several countries. It was attended by Scenic Group Chairman and founder Glen Moroney, Karen Moroney, dignitaries, agents, guests and members of the media.

November 2019: The Americas

Making the most of the Discovery Yacht’s sleek design and advanced technological features, Scenic Eclipse traversed the iconic Panama Canal, crossing from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean. From here, Scenic Eclipse headed south towards the majestic Chilean fjords. Once again, the unique design and world-class features of the Discovery Yacht enabled her to explore the narrow channels of the fjords, before reaching Cape Horn, the final destination before Antarctica.

November 2019 - March 2020: Antarctica, South Georgia & The Falkland Islands

Scenic Eclipse travelled to The Great White Continent - Antarctica for its inaugural season. As the first Polar Class 6 vessel, Scenic Eclipse’s state-of-the-art technology, safety and wealth of discovery vehicles allowed guests to experience this magnificent region unlike any other ship.

Scenic Eclipse set the new benchmark in ultra-luxury cruising, creating memories of a lifetime for guests as the expert Discovery Team led them to spot Emperor Penguins early in the season and taking them on sea-ice walks by Zodiac. Travelling deeper into Antarctic waters than other vessels,  guests could explore  below the water’s surface in the custom-build on board submarine, Scenic Neptune^ and were the first of the season to view the world’s largest iceberg, A-68. They also soared above the horizon in one of two Airbus helicopters.
